Yesterday was our anniversary, and what I thought was just going to be an evening date became a whole night of fun surprises that blew me away and left me even more thankful for my hero and our awesome friends (you know who you are. Eric and Rachel). Above is a snapshot of the view outside our room in the atrium of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
We also went to the Need to Breathe and Ben Rector concert, which was my first surprise of the evening. Need to Breathe is one of my new favorite bands. Their songs branch out farther than your average love songs, tackling tough issues and life adventures, and their music is outta this world. Mandolin, banjo, electric guitar, harmonica, xylophone, and cello? Somehow they pull it off to make something beautiful (which incidentally is the title of one their songs. Huh.) I didn’t think I had heard any of Ben Rector’s music before, but it turns out he’s been all over my Pandora stations. His love songs were solid, creative, and I loved his rock + ragtime jazz style.
I think I should point out that while I enjoy saving money in the kitchen, Chris is our family’s Craigslist and online money-saving sensation. In the past, we’ve bought tickets the day of the show for rock bottom prices and fabulous seats – all because Chris hit up Craigslist for deals. And whenever he orders something online (even pizza), he searches the internet for coupons or special promotions. For example, last night he saved 40% on our night at Opryland simply because he decided to check out the search results on Google before he booked the room.
That’s my man.
Enough about me. In other news, tomorrow we’re starting a new regular feature on The Cheapskate Cook. It’s something I’ve found fun and encouraging in the past, and I hope you get some pleasure out of it too!
Cheers,

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like your hubby did right by you! We’re taking our anniversary trip (technically to celebrate our fifth, which was actually last year’s – we couldn’t go then because our second had just been born) in a couple weeks.

I am so happy for such a fun day for both of you. I agree, your husband is awesome.
Just a note, I seem to have stopped getting the email notifications of your posting. I am behind but I will catch up
Love you.
